Proposal for a seafront pavilion in the Forum area in Barcelona. Project developed during the MSc programme at the Architectural Association in London. With Jake Bek, César Martínez and Pablo Zamorano.
For this project, we developed a material system based on applying cuts on a sheet of paper and then imposing controlled forces creating surface tension which in turn formed openings.
Applying the system to the architectural scale of the pavilion and considering site conditions, we tested and adjusted the geometry of the surface to control access, program, and structure. Based on this surface geometry, the varying size of the cell openings modulated views, direct sun, and shading. Throughout a daily cycle the programmatic uses float in plan to adjust to the comfortable shaded conditions shaped by the variation in the fenestration. The final form is a result of, and accommodates for, the combination of site, program, climate, structure, and material influences.
