Expandable Surface System is a material system developed during the Emergent Technologies and Design MSc programme at the Architectural Association in London.

It consists on applying cut patterns to plywood sheets to achieve doubly curved surfaces. The system is parametrically controlled and establishes a relation between curvature and cut pattern.

The system was successfully tested at two different scales: a self-standing wall for the Emtech programme end of year exhibition at the Architectural Association and a four-metre-span enclosure for a stand in Cologne fair. With Jake Bek and Pablo Zamorano.
